Words of Encouragement
November - 11 - 2007
Did you know our God is a consuming fire? Mmm. What does that mean? Is the focus on His holiness? Does this warn of judgment? Is this an expression of His purity? Yes, YES, and YES! You see, God is holy and pure and righteous. Our imperfections, flaws, failures, and sins stand out glaringly in comparison to his perfection. Yet, rather than destroying us with his holy fire, He can make us new and clean and more than what we once were. So not only can we draw near to him because of Jesus, we can stay near him as we live Jesus' life in our world.
The Scripture reading is from Hebrews 13:28,29
28 Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe;
29 for our God is a consuming fire.Let us go the our heavenly Father in Prayer.
Righteous and holy God, please forgive us for our sins, our lack of boldness, and our weak faith. Thank you for not compromising Your holiness, but, instead, sacrificing Your Son to perfect and purify us by Your grace so we can come before you. As we live this week, may your holiness be exalted by our conduct and reflected in our character.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Amen.
