Words of Encouragement August - 24 - 2003
What do we truly love? The world and its "treasures" constantly vie for our affection and attention. It is easy to be trapped in a constant desire for something else, for more and more! The remedy is to have our heart and mind set upon the heavenly treasure, the love and worship of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul gives us a good test of our affections in these verses from
1 Timothy 6:6-10!
6 There is great gain in godliness with contentment; 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world;
8 but if we have food and clothing, with these we shall be content.
9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and hurtful desires that plunge men into ruin anddestruction.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evils; it is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced their hearts with many pangs.Let us Pray.
Heavenly Father help us today to focus on our Lord Jesus Christ. Help us to give service in His Kingdom. We know that when Jesus really matters to us, we can joyfully accept the bounty of blessings he provides with contentment, and serve Him gratefully today.
