Thank you again for taking a Bible break and testing your knowledge of God's word.
What type of wood was used to build the ark?
Your first thought may be-"why even bother with such a simple question?" But within the answer lies a study that encompasses the Bible from cover to cover! We saw last week that Noah walked with God. He was a righteous man, walking upright. In chapter 15 of John, Jesus says He will abide in us IF we abide in Him. So the emphasis is in our abiding. And just how do we do that?
In Matthew 7:24 Jesus says the one who hears His word and acts upon them is like the wise man who builds his house upon a rock. That rock is Christ. In I John 2:1-6 we find we must keep His commandments, and if we keep His word, we are perfected in His love. And as we abide in Him, living within His word, and acting upon it or living it we will walk in the same manner as He walked. The Lord tells us in I Timothy 2:15 that we are to study to show ourselves approved of God. Just as those from Berea who studied His word to see if those things taught by the apostle Paul were so. Meaning they didn't take the word of man at face value. They studied the scriptures (Acts 17:13-14).
And so did Noah walk! And so, for our answer today. God told Noah in Genesis 6:14 to make the ark of gopher wood. Many will spend endless hours trying to determine exactly what gopher wood is. Is it cypress or oak or pine or maybe an extinct variety of wood, or is it the manner in which the wood was hewn or how it was laid or possibly woven and then covered with pitch .
The point is this: God says-and so Noah does! The authority of the word spoken to Noah in the first book is no different than the word spoken by Jesus to the crowds that surrounded Him as He walked upon this earth. And when He spoke, it was as one with authority so that they were amazed (Matthew 7:28-29). And indeed we should be when we read this great book today.
Open up your Bible won't you come and study His word? Let us walk together with God! Oh, the gopher wood
Thank you for taking of your time for Bible Break.
