Bible Break

Welcome and thank you for testing your knowledge of God's word.

This week's question:

What saves the Hebrew firstborn in the last plague?

To Exodus chapter eleven we go to see the hardened heart of Pharaoh not letting the people of Israel go. Then the Lord tells Moses that only one more plague would take place and Pharaoh would release the people willingly.

Exodus 11:4-7 Moses said, "Thus says the Lord, 'About midnight I am going out into midst of Egypt, and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of the Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the slave girl who is behind the millstones; all the firstborn of the cattle as well. Moreover, there shall be a great cry in all the land of Egypt, such as there has not been before and such as shall never be again. But against any of the sons of Israel a dog will not even bark, whether against man or beast, that you may understand how the Lord makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.'

In verse 9 The Lord tells us why the elaborate plan:

Exodus 11:9 "Pharaoh will not listen to you , so that my wonders will be multiplied in the Land of Egypt."

In chapter twelve the Lord instructs the Israelites to take an unblemished lamb and to kill it at twilight and to eat it-for- (verse 11) 'it is the Lord's Passover.' The Passover is the passing over of death to those who place the blood of the lamb upon the door post and the lintel-or the post over the door itself-and also to no one that goes outside of their homes until morning. So indeed-death does pass over the houses of those who place the blood of the lamb over the droopiest and of course-for those who do not go outside their homes. They followed the lord's word to the letter. And those that did-survived-while the Egyptians that did not do these things-perished-the firstborn of each family from the highest in authority to the slave girl.

So we have the answer to the question-blood the of unblemished lamb is placed upon the door post and lintel for life! Why would the Lord have them do this? For the symbols! Symbolic of the lamb of God:

John 1:29 "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!"

A symbol of our sinless Lord as we find in:

2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. And a symbol of everlasting life through our Lord:

James 2:3-6 The one who says "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.

James 2:25 And this is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life. The question we must ask ourselves to day is this, what if they did not place the blood on the door post-would they live? The answer is this, "of course not!" What if they went outside? "Israelite or not, Dead!" This is a lesson for us today-to listen to the Lamb of God-who speaks to us through the New Testament word:

James 1:22 Prove yourselves doers of the word and merely hearers who delude themselves. So, let us become active participants of His word. To not only hear-but to act upon them to receive that home eternal. For the promise comes from Him who is true!
