Welcome and thank you for taking a bible break to test your knowledge of God's word.
This week's question:

Who are chronic liars?

The lie is a knowledge of what someone believes to be truth and saying what they believe to be false with the intent of deceiving someone else. Jesus tells us, "Little children, let no one deceive you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, that He might destroy the works of the devil." (1 John 3:7-8) "He also told the Jews as He walked this earth, "I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life." The Pharisees therefore said to Him, "You are bearing witness of Yourself; Your witness is not true." (John 8:12-13) Then Jesus told them, "Even in your law it has been written, that the testimony of two men is true. I am He who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me." And so they were saying to Him, "Where is Your Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither Me, nor My Father; if you knew Me, you would know My Father also." (John 8:14-19)

So they then asked Him "Who are You?" Jesus said to them, "What have I been saying from the beginning? I have many things to speak and judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and the things which I heard from Him, these I speak to the world." They did not realize that He had been speaking to them about the Father. Jesus therefore said, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me." (John 8:25-28).

Jesus then tells them, "If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:31-32), and again, "Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word. You are of the father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He who was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature; for he is a liar, and the father of lies. But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me." (John 8:43-45) So, even though He performed so many miracles before their very eyes, yet they did not believe in Him. (John 12:37). The Lord tells us, "Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Do not add to His words lest He reprove you, and you be proved a liar. Two things I ask of thee, do not refuse me before I die; keep deception and lied far from me, give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is my portion, lest I be full and deny Thee and say, 'Who is the Lord?' Or lest I be in want and steal, and profane the name of God." (Proverbs 30:5-9).

That brings us to our question, "Who are chronic liars?". Even though men can see God by His very creation of the heavens and the universe each day, "For since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, nor give thanks; but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, that their bodies might be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the creator, who is pleased forever. Amen." (Romans 1:20-25) Just as the Lord again tells us in Proverbs, "A faithful witness will not lie, but a false witness speaks lies." " A truthful witness saves lives, but he who speaks lies is treacherous." (Proverbs 14:5 & 25). If we pay attention to lies, we will even spread them, "If a ruler pays attention to falsehood, all his ministers become wicked." (Proverbs 29:12). We must strive to be true in not only things of a spiritual nature, but also in this physical life, "Better is the poor who walks in his integrity, than he who is crooked though he be rich." "He who tills his land will have plenty of food, but he who follows empty pursuits will have poverty in plenty." (Proverbs 28:6 &19)

So then, for the answer to our question we turn and read, "For there are many rebellious men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, who must be silenced because they are upsetting whole families, teaching things they should not teach, for the sake of sordid gain. One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, 'Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.' This testimony is true. For this cause reprove them severely that they may be sound in the faith, not paying attention to Jewish myths and commandments of men who turn away from the truth. To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled. They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient, and worthless for any good deed." (Titus 1:10-16).

So, there we have the answer to our question as the chronic liars are those of the Isle of Crete!

Let us hold fast to the purity of the word and the integrity of it, while not denying Him along the pathway for life,

"I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth. Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son." " And this is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life." (1 John 2:21,22 & 25)
