Bible Break

Welcome and thank you again for taking a bible break to test your knowledge of God's word. This week's question:

God asks Moses to save his people - what does he say?

Moses spends the first 40 years in Egypt and the next 40 years as a shepherd in Midian where he marries Zipporah. To chapter three of Exodus we to see God sending an angel to Moses as a blazing fire in the midst of a bush that does not burn. The Lord tells Moses that He has heard the cries of Israel and knows of their suffering.

In verse ten the Lord tells Moses that He will send him to Egypt to bring the Israelites out. Moses response in verse eleven:

Exodus 3:11 But Moses said to God, "Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh,

and That I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?"

God reminds Moses that He will be with him, and as a sign that God has sent him, but not consoling enough.

Exodus 3:13 Then Moses said to God, "Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel,

and I will say to them, "the God of your fathers has sent me to you.' Now they may

say to me, 'What is His name?' What shall I say?" God then tells Moses: "I Am Who I

Am."

And then tells him to gather the elders of Israel together and that a land of milk and honey awaits them. Also, it would only be with great miracles that Pharaoh would release the people. Moses is not totally convinced and responds:

Exodus 4:1 Then Moses said, "What if they will not believe me or listen to

what I say? For they may say, "The Lord has not appeared to you.' "

The Lord then showed Moses three signs to show the people. He first turns Moses' staff into a serpent, then turns his hand leprous, and finally, if they did not believe those signs, would turn the Nile water to blood. And Moses response?

Exodus 4:10 Then Moses said to the Lord, "Please, Lord, I have never been

eloquent, Neither recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your servant;

for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue."

God reminds him who made his tongue, "Is it not I, the Lord?" He also tells Moses that He would teach him what to say. But that is of little consolation as Moses tells the Lord for his fifth argument:

Exodus 4:13 But he said, "Please Lord, now send the message by whomever

You will."

That is, send anyone but me, which angers the Lord in verse 14, but the Lord relents and sends Moses' brother Aaron as a spokesperson before Pharaoh.

So we have our answer for our question today, not me, not me, not me, not me, not me. Well, if you put it that way, o.k., I'll go, yes.

This may remind you of the parable of the two sons in Matthew 21:28-31. Yes, it's our final answer that counts so much in life, and especially, to God.
