Welcome and thank you for taking a bible beak to test your knowledge of God's word.
This week's question:

Who is Felix's wife?

When Jesus was led to the Praetorium, He was brought to trial before the governor named Pilate. When accusations are brought before him, he tells the Jews, "'Take Him yourselves and judge Him according to your Law.' The Jews said to him, 'We are not permitted to put anyone to death.' That the word of Jesus might be fulfilled , which He spoke, signifying by what king of death He was about to die." (John 18:31-32). Pilate knew that they had delivered Him to him because of envy (Mark 15:10). The Jews even tried to make it a secular matter as they told Pilate, "And they began to accuse Him, saying, 'We found this Man misleading our nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying the He Himself is Christ, a King.' And Pilate asked Him, saying, 'Are you the King of the Jews?' And He answered and said, 'It is as you say.'" (Luke 23:2-3). The Jews told Pilate, "We have a law, and by that law He ought to die because He made Himself out to be the Son of God.' When Pilate therefore heard this statement, he was the more afraid; and he entered into the Praetorium again, and said to Jesus, 'Where are You from?' But Jesus gave no answer. Pilate therefore said to Him, 'You will not speak to me? Do You not know that I have the authority to release You, and the authority to crucify You?' Jesus answered, 'You would have not authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; For this reason he who delivered Me up to you has the greater sin.' As a result of this Pilate made efforts to release Him, but the Jews cried out, saying. 'If you release this Man, you are no friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes Caesar.'" Pilate brought Him out about the sixth hour and asked them, "'Shall I crucify your King?' The chief priests answered, 'We have no king but Caesar.' So he then delivered Him up to be crucified." (John 19:7-16) Interestingly enough, even the governor's wife had some input into the matter, "And while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him saying, 'Have nothing to do with that Righteous Man; for last night I suffered greatly in a dream because of Him." (Matthew 27:19).

That brings us to our question, "Who is Felix's wife?". Felix, the governor, listens to the charges brought by Tertullus, the attorney for the Jews against that pest, Paul (Acts 24:5). Paul counters their charges, saying that they did not find him carrying on discussions in the temple nor causing a riot ant that he always carried a blameless conscious before God and man and that the Jews from Asia should be there to tell them what misdeeds they found him doing other than making this one statement, "...For the resurrection of the dead I am on trial before you today." (Acts 24:21). Felix did have some knowledge about the "Way" or Christians, and put off the Jews until the commander Lysias would be there (Acts 24:22).

And so for our answer, we turn and read, "But some days later, Felix arrived with Drusilla, his wife who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul, and heard him speak about faith in Christ Jesus. And He was discussing righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix became frightened and said, 'Go away for the present, and when I find time, I will summon you.'" (Acts 24:24-25).

So there we have the answer to our question as the name of Felix's wife is "Drusilla"!

As we can see, Felix was pierced a little by the statements made by Paul as he became frightened, just as Pilate did when the Jews said that this Jesus claimed to be the Son of God! Well it seems they were not pierced enough to act on that belief as Felix was always hoping to gain some reward from Paul, "At the same time too, he was hoping that money would be given him by Paul; therefore he also used to send for him quite often and converse with him. But after two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus; and wishing to do the Jews a favor, Felix left Paul imprisoned." (Acts 24:26-27).

May we be as honest with our actions as those who were pierced through for recognized that they had crucified the Son of God in Acts chapter two, when Peter finishes his first gospel sermon by saying, "'Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ-this Jesus whom you crucified.' Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, 'Brethren, what shall we do?' And Peter said to them, 'Repent and each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God shall call to Himself.' And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them saying, 'Be saved from this perverse generation.' So then, those who received his word were baptized; and there were added that day about three thousand souls." (Acts 2:36-41). Be pierced to the heart!
