Welcome and thank you for taking a bible break to test your knowledge of God's word.
This week's question:

Who urges her husband to "Curse God"?

One day the angels came and presented themselves before God and Satan was also with them. God then asks Satan, "'From where do you come?' Then Satan answered the Lord and said, 'From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it.'" (Job 1:7). The Lord then asks Satan if he has considered His servant from the land of Uz, who is blameless, upright, turns from evil and God fearing, since there is no one else like him upon the earth. Satan replies, "'Hast thou not made a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. But put forth Thy hand now and touch all that he has; he will surely curse Thee to Thy face.' Then the Lord said to Satan, 'Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him.' So Satan departed from the presence of the Lord." (Job 1:10-12).

That brings us to our question, "Who urges her husband to 'Curse God'?". Satan does not waste much time as this man's children are gathered together at their brother's house and a great wind blew the four corners of the house down and they are all killed. While this was happening a servant comes and reports, "'The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them, and the Sabeans attacked and took them. They also slew the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.' While he was still speaking, another also came and said, 'The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.' While he was still speaking, another also came and said, 'The Chaldeans formed three bands and made a raid on the camels and took them and slew the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you.'" (Job 2:14-17)

Then the report came that his children were all killed while the last report was being given and God's servant, when he heard all of these things, tore his robe, shaved his head, and he fell to the ground and worshipped God, saying, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I shall return there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord." (Job 1:21). And though all of these things happened to him, he still did not sin and did not blame God. When God asks Satan about His upright and blameless servant, Satan then charges back, "'Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life. However, put forth Thy hand, now, and touch his bone and his flesh; he will curse Thee to Thy face.' So the Lord said to Satan, 'Behold, he is in your power, only spare his life.'" (Job 2:4-6).

So then, for the answer to our question we turn and read, "Then Satan went our from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. And he took a potsherd to scrape himself while he was sitting among the ashes. Then his wife said to him, 'Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die!' But he said to her, 'You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?' In all of this Job did not sin with his lips." (Job 2:7-10). So there we have the answer to our question, as it was Job's wife who asked him to defend his integrity and "Curse God and die!" Needless to say, she did speak as the foolish women (or men as it be) as Job was keeping his righteousness by not cursing God for life!

May we be so bold as to hold our standing with God before giving in to Satan and blaming God for our adversity instead of the real powers that we struggle against, "Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." (Ephesians 6:11-12) Remember, God will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able to endure, but will provide a way of escape-and think about Job (1 Corinthians 13:10)!
