Welcome and thank you for taking a bible break to test your knowledge of God's word.
This week's question:

Will any incur a stricter judgment?

Jesus said, "Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." (Matthew 7:1-2), and again, "Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned. Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure--pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return." (Luke 6:37-38) Jesus also clarifies these statements as many come to the conclusion that none can judge anyone, "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment." (John 7:24) Even Nicodemus understood the importance of judging correctly while Jesus was being discussed by the chief priests and Pharisees by saying, "Our Law does not judge a man, unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing, does it?" (John 7:51)

That brings us to our question, "Will any incur a stricter judgment?." Jesus says concerning judgment, "I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me." (John 5:30), and again, "He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word that I spoke is what will judge him at the last day." (John 12:48) Paul talks of one in sin within the church, "I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people; I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world. But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler--not even to eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church?" (1 Corinthians 5:9-12)

Paul than says an interesting thing concerning the saints, "Does any one of you, when he has a case against his neighbor, dare to go to law before the unrighteous and not before the saints? Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent to constitute the smallest law courts? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life? So if you have law courts dealing with matters of this life, do you appoint them as judges who are of no account in the church?" (1Corinthians 6:1-4)

So then, for the answer to our question we turn and read, "Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment. (James 3:1)

So there we have the answer to our question, as the one who teaches the word of God will incur a stricter judgment!

Let us be careful how we handle the word of God, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth." (2 Timothy 2:15), and Peter reminds us, "If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. Make sure that none of you suffers as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome meddler; but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name. For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? And if it is with difficulty that the righteous is saved, what will become of the Godless man and the sinner? Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right." (I peter 4:14-19)
