Welcome and thank you for taking a bible break to test your knowledge of God's word.
This week's question:

Who is to be eaten by dogs?

"Then the Lord said to Moses, 'Behold, the time for you to die is near; call Joshua, and present yourselves at the tent of meeting, that I may commission him.' So Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves at the tent of meeting. And the Lord appeared in the tent in a pillar of cloud, and the pillar of cloud stood at the doorway of the tent. And the Lord said to Moses, 'Behold, you are about to lie down with your fathers; and this people will arise and play the harlot with strange gods of the land, into the midst of which they are going, and will forsake Me and break the covenant which I have made with them. Then My anger will be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them in that day, and I will forsake them and hide My face from them, and they shall be consumed, and many evils and troubles shall come upon them; so that they will say in that day, 'Is it not because our God is not among us that these evils have come upon us?' But I will surely hide My face in that day because of all the evil which they will do, for they will turn to other gods.'" (Deuteronomy 31:14-18). The princes say to the priest Ezra many years later, "The people of Israel and the priests and the Levites have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands according to their abominations, those of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites. For they have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy race has intermingled with the peoples of the lands; indeed, the hands of the princes and the rulers have been foremost in this unfaithfulness.' And when I heard about this matter, I tore my garment and my robe, and pulled some of the hair from my head and my beard, and sat down appalled." (Ezra 9:1-3).

So we can see that the rulers and spiritual leaders were foremost in this fall from God!

That brings us to our question, "Who is to be eaten by dogs?". Ahab became the king of Israel and married the daughter of Ethbaal, the king of the Sidonians and then served Baal and worshipped him, and even erected an altar for Baal in the house of Baal which he erected in Samaria, the capital of Israel (1 Kings 16:29-32). "And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord more evil than all who were before him." (1 kings 16:30). Now Ahab sold himself to do evil as his wife incited him to do so (1 Kings 21:25). When he desired a vineyard owned by Naboth, he offered money or a vineyard similar to the one he owned, and Naboth declined because it was a family inheritance, and Ahab went home dejected because of this. But his wife hired two worthless men to sit across at a banquet and charge falsely that he had cursed God, and when they did, he was taken out and stoned, and Ahab got his vineyard-but not without consequences. God sent Elisha the Tishbite to tell Ahab, "'Have you murdered, and also taken possession?' And you shall speak to him saying, 'Thus says the Lord, 'In the place where the dogs licked up the blood of Naboth the dogs shall lick up your blood, even yours.'" (1 Kings 21:19). As these words were spoken to him, Ahab rents his clothes and puts on sackcloth in repentance and the Lord told Elijah, "Do you see how Ahab has humbled himself before Me? Because he has humbled himself before Me, I will not bring this evil in his days, but I will bring the evil upon his house in his son's days." (1 Kings 21:29). Now, the Lord has a similar prophecy concerning his evil wife that is not recanted, since she does not repent as her husband.

So then, for the answer to our question we turn and read, "When Jehu came to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it, and she painted her eyes and adorned her head, and looked out the window. And as Jehu entered the gate, she said, 'Is it well, Zimri, your master's murderer?' Then he lifted up his face to the window and said. 'Who is on my side? Who?' And two or three officials looked down at him. And he said, 'Throw her down.' So they threw her down, and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall and on the horses, and he trampled her under foot. When he came in, he ate and drank; and he said, 'See now to this cursed woman and bury her, for she is a king's daughter.' And they went to bury her, but they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands. Therefore they returned and told him. And he said, 'This is the word of the Lord, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 'In the property of Jezreel the dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel; and the corpse of Jezebel shall be as dung on the face of the field in the property of Jezreel, so they cannot say, 'This is Jezebel.'" (2Kings 9:30-37). So there we have the answer to our question, as the wife of Ahab who was to be eaten by dogs was the daughter of Ethbaal, the king of the Sidonians, and her name was Jezebel! Jezebel, a powerful woman who used her position and influence for evil!

Let us keep ourselves humble and not be remembered as Jezebel is at the church of Thyatira, "But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads My bondservants astray, so that they commit acts of immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols." (Revelation 2:20).
