Welcome and thank you for taking a bible break to test your knowledge of God's word.
This week's question:

Who has a huge bed of iron?

"The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown." (Genesis 6:4). The Lord tells us that the Nephilim, or giants, were "mighty men" and "men of renown", does that mean "large cavemen"? Just as God knows what a beautiful women looks like of form and face, such as Rachel. (Genesis 29:17) Also, Saul who was chosen to be king by God was head and shoulders above the other men. He looked like a king (1 Samuel 9:23-24)! So these men were very intelligent, very strong, and were able to do mighty things upon this earth as they lived long lives and many probably felt like gods themselves. Some may well have been taller, like giants in more ways that one. Now Cain's offspring brought violence to the world as we see in not only in himself as he rose up and killed his brother out of envy (Genesis 4:8), but also in his offspring, such as Lamech (who took two wives by the way) says to them, "And Lamech said to his wives,' Adah and Zillah, listen to my voice, you wives of Lamech, give heed to my speech, for I have killed a man for wounding me; and a boy for striking me;'" (Genesis 4:23-24). Cain's off spring are probably referred to as the "daughters of men" while the "sons of God " are the offspring of Seth as we read, "And Adam had relations with his wife again; and she gave birth to a son, and named him Seth, for, she said, 'God has appointed me another offspring in place of Abel; for Cain killed him.' And to Seth, to him also a son was born; and he called his name Enosh. Then men began to call upon the name of the Lord" (Genesis 4:25-26). So we see that only until Seth is born do men call upon the name of the Lord, not from the offspring of Cain, which brings about the saying, 'the sons of God" as they called upon the name of the Lord. .

That brings us to our question, "Who has a huge bed of iron?" When the Israelites were coming back from Egypt to the land of Canaan, they sent into the land twelve spies who scouted out the land and came back to report. Ten of them said that they looked like grasshoppers compared to the men there, while two men, Caleb and Joshua, said they could take the land with the help of God. But the people listened to the ten reports instead, and God made them wander in the desert for forty years or until all that generation died (Numbers 14:27-34)! So they did wander in the desert for forty years and they all perished (twenty years and upward)-as even Moses was not allowed in the land as he spoke harshly and struck the rock instead of speaking to it so that water poured out for the people and even put himself on an equality with God (Genesis 20:8-12)-except Caleb and Joshua as they stood fast for the Lord (Numbers 32:10-13). When they finished their exodus, they came back to the land of Canaan and were ready to retake the land, which included Bashan.

So then, for the answer to our question we turn and read, "Thus we too the land as that time from the hand of the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, from the valley of Arnon to Mount Hermon (Sidonians call it Hermon Sirion, and the Amorites call it Senir): all the cities of the tableland and all Gilead and all Bashan, as far as Salecah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. (For only Og king of Bashan was left of the remnant of the Rephaim. Behold, his bedstead was an iron bedstead; it is in Rabbah of the sons of Ammon. Its length was nine cubits and its width four cubits by ordinary cubit.) So we took possession of this land at that time. From Aroer, which is by the valley of Arnon, and half the hill country of Gilead and its cities, I gave to the Reubenites and the Gadites. And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh, all the region of Argob (concerning all Bashan, it is called the land of Rephaim. Jair the son of Manasseh took all the region of Argobas far as the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and called it , that is, Bashan, after his own name, Havvoth-jair, as it is to this day" (Deuteronomy 3:8-14). So there we have the answer to the question as the one with a huge bed of iron is none other than "Og", king of Bashin! Since a cubit is 18 inches, that bed is 13 1Ž2 feet long and 6 feet wide!

While not all of you may be reaching for your baby book for new names such as our answer of the day being, 'Og', an interesting piece of history goes by the wayside as the last of the remaining race of giants is erased from the earth with the destruction of king Og and his people! By the way, large human fossils have been found, according to history, and they may be some relatives of king Og!
