Welcome and thank you for taking a bible break to
test your knowledge of God's word.
This week's question:
There is no doubt that this question does raise "much discussion" across this earth as people query about one of the "mysteries" of the bible. God says of His Son:
Psalms 2:6-8 "Bus as for Me, I have installed My King upon Zion, My holy mountain. I will surely tell of
the Decree of the Lord: He said to Me, 'You are My Son, today have I begotten You.'"
And so "when the fullness of the time came, God send forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law" (Galatians 4:4) indeed the world was ready for the King to enter into the world and as John 1:14 says, "And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten for the Father, full of grace and truth." And so the King is brought into the world and indeed the King needs a kingdom.
To Mark 9:1 we go to start the search for today's question:
And Jesus was saying to them, "Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here
who will not taste of death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power."
We can understand that the kingdom has not yet come at this point, but that it would come and be seen during the lifetimes of at least some of the people standing before Jesus, and that it would come with power. In John chapter sixteen Jesus tells His disciples that He must go away, but that it will be to their advantage as then the Comforter, or the Helper, or the Spirit of Truth, (the Holy Spirit), would "guide you into all truth" (John 16:7-15). And then after the crucifixion of Jesus, the apostles are told to wait in Jerusalem for "what the Father had promised" (Acts 1:3-8)
In Acts chapter two, when the day of Pentecost had come, (this is the first day of the week, or Sunday), "there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind" (Acts 2:2), and they were filled with the Holy spirit, Just as Jesus had prophesied would happen, and they all spoke in the varying languages of the Jews that had gathered for the Pentecost festival and the people marveled that these Galileans, or untrained men, would be able to do such a thing, and then some supposed they might be drunk, but Peter stood up and preached the first gospel sermon and once they realized that they had just crucified the Son of God, they asked the question,
Acts 2:37-39 "What shall we do?" Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the
name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For
the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as our God will call to
Himself."
In verse forty seven we see that those who were baptized were added to the Lord's body.
And so for the final point to today's answer we go to:
Colossians 1:13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His
Beloved Son.
And so we can see that as we become a child of God and are added to His body we are also transferred into the kingdom. And for our answer, the kingdom of God came when the Holy Spirit fell upon the apostles with power in Acts chapter two and the first gospel sermon was taught by Peter and some three thousand souls responded to the message in baptism and were not only added to the Lord's body, but also transferred into His kingdom.
