Bible Break

Welcome and thank for taking a bible break to test your knowledge of God's word.
This week's question:

What disciple makes the "good confession"?

Jesus asks His disciples, "But who do you say that I am?" Matthew 16:15 The question asked by Him to His disciples is the same one that we must answer in the world today. We may think it is getting increasingly difficult in the world today to answer this question without some type of retribution by the people of the world and in some cases the laws of the land. And so the Lord encourages us to be of good courage and to please Him in all things upon this earth as we will be recompensed for our deeds as we are to be ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5: all) Paul tells us in Romans 10:8-10 that we must confess Jesus as Lord as we believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead and that it will result in righteousness.

And so, back to our question today of which disciple made the good confession. For our answer we will turn to:

Matthew 16:15-18 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are

the Christ, the Son of the living God." And Jesus said to him, "Blessed are you Simon Barjona, because

flesh and Blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in Heaven."

And so there we have the answer to our question. Simon Barjona, who is also called Peter (John 1:42). We too , must be of the same type of courage as Peter so boldly spoke and as all His apostles and disciples do make this same confession before men, so that we may stand before God in good conscious, as we have done what He has asked us to do upon this earth. In the New Testament there are many who have set the example for us to follow by making the "good confession" and then they set themselves apart from the world as they put off the old man and put on the new man in baptism as they wash away the sins they have committed. In Acts 8:31-39 we see Philip preaching Jesus to the eunuch and as they come upon a body of water the eunuch asks what would prevent him from being baptized. Philip tells him

Acts 8:36-68 "If you believe with all your heart , you may." And he answered and said. "I believe that

Jesus Christ is the Son of God." And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the

water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him.

Not only was he baptized immediately, but as we can see in Acts 22:16 that our sins are washed in that watery grave (Romans 6:1-6).

May we be ready to stand with good courage and confess Jesus as the Christ before men if we have not done son already? We are then to walk on the same pathway as Jesus walked (1 John 2:1-6) so that we may enter into His eternal rest.
