Bible Break

Welcome, and thank you for taking a bible break to test your knowledge of God's word.
This week's question:

How did Jesus speak?

To John 1:14 "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth." Jesus, the Son of God, became flesh that we might understand the mystery of God more fully. This did not happen by how Jesus looked as we see in Isaiah 53:2 "For He grew up like a tender shoot, like a root out of parched ground; He has no stately form or majesty that we should look upon Him, nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him." Nor was His birth a place that would attract men, for as we well know, it was of a lowly estate, a manger. Nor was His family of high esteem in the eyes of so called the 'social order' for the sacrifice that was offered before God for the firstborn (Luke 2:7&24).

Even the Father spoke at Jesus' baptism saying in Matthew 3:17 "This is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased." And again to His disciples in Luke 9:35 "This is My Son, My chosen One; listen to Him!" So the words that He speaks are as from the Father and we are to listen to Him! Some do not do so as we see:

John 5:37-47 "And the Father who sent Me, He has testified of Me, You have neither heard His voice at

any time nor seen His form. You do not have His word abiding in you, for you do not believe in Him

whom He sent. You search the scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these

that testify about me; and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life. I do not receive the

glory of men; but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves. …For if you believed

Moses, you would believe Me, for He wrote about Me. But if you do not believe His writings, how will

you believe My words?"

Jesus wants to see the word abiding in us as we believe in Him and walk as He walked, searching the scriptures for life by believing and obeying His words for life (1 John 2:5). Jesus says in John 6:63-64 "…the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. But there are some of you who do not believe." And again in John 8:31-32 "…If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth and the truth shall make you free." Jesus continues in John 10:1-30 to say that He is the Good Shepherd and those that hear His voice will come to Him through His door for salvation while others will try to break in some other way. After the many words spoken by Jesus and the miracles done by His hand to confirm that He is the Christ they still ask, "are you the Christ, tell us plainly." No doubt they are not of His sheep as they do not hear His voice.

So for our answer to today's question of how Jesus spoke. To Matthew 7:24-29 we go to see Jesus telling the people that those who hear His words and act upon them is comparable to the wise man who builds his house upon the rock and the storms that came could make it fall while the foolish man who built his house upon the sand and when the storms came along, they brought it down. "When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching; for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as the scribes." And so, as we see, Jesus taught with authority.

Jesus did speak in parables to the people but tells His disciples In John 18:25 "These things I have spoken to you in a figurative language; an hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in a figurative language, but will tell you plainly of the Father." And indeed this has been done for us in the Ephesian letter as Paul writes in chapter three

That the mystery of Christ has been revealed to us to be plainly understood. Why not study the scriptures to not only hear the word of our Lord, but to believe and act upon them like the wise man for eternal life.
