Welcome and thank you for taking a bible break to test your knowledge of God's word.
This week's question:

Whose daughter was Keren-happuch?

When we think about the many daughters that have been born upon this earth, many have their names placed in the scriptures by God for eternity, some to greatness while others are not so great. We will look at a few that cover both sides of the equation. First, we see one who was born of Terah named Sarah, who shared the same father, Terah, as did her husband, Abraham (Genesis 11:27 & 20:12). Now Sarah was a very beautiful woman (Genesis 12:14) and also was barren (Genesis 11:30) and well after child bearing years was told by an angel that she would have a son and so she laughed at the thought of that (Genesis 18:9-15), and she did have a son named Isaac when she was 90 years old and Abraham was 100 (Genesis 17:17 & 21:1-7)!

Another beautiful daughter by Laban named Rachel, also had a sister named Leah who was described as "weak eyed" (Genesis 29:16-17). Now Jacob made a deal with Laban to work seven years for Rachel in marriage, which he did, but when he spent his wedding night in a dark tent, he woke up the next morning with the older sister, yes, Leah. He then worked another seven years for the hand of Rachel (Genesis 29:18-30). Now Leah was unloved so the Lord opened her womb and she bore Jacob four sons while Rachel was barren (Genesis 29:31-35). Rachel became jealous of her sister and Leah bore two more sons and a daughter before God opened the womb of Rachel and she bore a son named Joseph (Genesis 30:24) and then another son named Benjamin, but she died in childbirth with him and was buried outside of Bethlehem (Genesis 34:16-19). Interestingly enough, the twelve tribes of Israel were named after some of the sons bore by Leah, Rachel and their maids and Rachel's name is used concerning an event in the life of the Lord when Herod has all the male children killed who are two years and younger;
16 Then when Herod saw that he had been tricked by the magi, he became very enraged, and sent and slew all the male children who were in Bethlehem and all its vicinity, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the magi.
17 Then what had been spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled:
18 "A VOICE WAS HEARD IN RAMAH,
         WEEPING AND GREAT MOURNING,
         RACHEL WEEPING FOR HER CHILDREN;
         AND SHE REFUSED TO BE COMFORTED,
         BECAUSE THEY WERE NO MORE."
(Matthew 2:16-18).

That brings us to our question, "Whose daughter was Keren-happuch?". Not all daughters were sweet and innocent as the daughter of Ethbaal who married the king of Israel named Ahab, who did evil and provoked the Lord more than all the kings before him, who married none other than Jezebel (1 Kings 16:29-33)! When Naboth would not sell his vineyard to Ahab, Jezebel has wicked men testify against Naboth and he is stoned to death so that her husband could take possession of it (1 Kings 21:1-16). The Lord tells Ahab that dogs will eat Jezebel, and they do, as she incited him to do evil, and upon hearing this, Ahab repents (1 Kings 21:21-29 & 2 Kings 9:30-37).

There was another who had sons and daughters who were all killed, named Job, when Satan charged concerning Job;
8 The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil."
9 Then Satan answered the LORD, "Does Job fear God for nothing?
10 "Have You not made a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.
11 "But put forth Your hand now and touch all that he has; he will surely curse You to Your face."
12 Then the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him." So Satan departed from the presence of the LORD.
(Job 1:8-12) A list of terrible events happen as Job looses all his wealth and even his children are killed as a great wind knocks down the house they are all in (Job 1:18). Through all of this Job does not sin, but his wife tells him;
9 Then his wife said to him, "Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die!" (Job 2:9).

So then, for the answer to our question we turn and read;
10 The LORD restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends, and the LORD increased all that Job had twofold.
11 Then all his brothers and all his sisters and all who had known him before came to him, and they ate bread with him in his house; and they consoled him and comforted him for all the adversities that the LORD had brought on him. And each one gave him one piece of money, and each a ring of gold.
12 The LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; and he had 14,000 sheep and 6,000 camels and 1,000 yoke of oxen and 1,000 female donkeys.
13 He had seven sons and three daughters.
14 He named the first Jemimah, and the second Keziah, and the third Keren-happuch.
15 In all the land no women were found so fair as Job's daughters; and their father gave them inheritance among their brothers.
16 After this, Job lived 140 years, and saw his sons and his grandsons, four generations.
17 And Job died, an old man and full of days.
(Job 42:10-17)

So there we have the answer to our question as Job's daughter is Keren-happuch!

Let us thank God for those daughter's who become wives, mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers!
