Welcome and thank you for taking a bible break and test your knowledge of God's word.

This week's question:

Where was Jesus raised?

To Luke chapter two we go to find Caesar Augustus sending out a decree of a census to be taken where each would register in his city of his house. Since Joseph was of the house of David, both he and Mary traveled to the town of Bethlehem, the birth place of David. Soon, Jesus is born in a manger and they are first visited by shepherds who tell of angels praising God of the Christ and are sent to Bethlehem to worship Him. Mary treasures all these things in her heart (Luke 2:18-19).

Then Magi come to Jerusalem and inquire of king Herod about a newborn king of the Jews and both he and all of Jerusalem are troubled because of it (Matthew 2:1-3). He requests that they make careful search and when they find Him to return and tell them where He is so that he too can worship Him, though he secretly wishes to destroy Him. Herod inquires of the chief priests of where the Messiah is to be born and they tell him it is in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2).

After the Magi continue to follow the star and find Him and worship Him and give their gifts, they are warned in a dream to travel back another way. Soon king Herod realizes he has been tricked and sends his men to kill all children in Bethlehem two years and younger. But Joseph is warned in a dream to flee to Egypt because of the plan of the king to destroy the Child. So immediately they travel by night to Egypt (Matthew 2:13-18).

So, for our answer to today's question. After the death of King Herod Joseph is again told in a dream that the fear of Herod has passed and to again return to the land of Israel. When they first come back to Israel, they seemingly are going to settle in Judea, closer to Jerusalem where maybe this interesting Child, this King of the Jews should be raised. But being warned in a dream about Herod's replacement, Archelaus, the son of Herod, they return to their hometown of Nazareth of Galilee (Matthew 2:20-23).

And so Nazareth of Galilee is our answer

to today's question so that prophecy could be fulfilled that Jesus be called a Nazarene (Matthew 2:23).

Nazareth, an obscure town (John 1:46) where Jesus was raised in subjection to Joseph, the carpenter, and his wife Mary along with His brothers and sisters (Mark 6:3) continued to grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and men (Luke 2:51-52).

Jesus, beginning His ministry at about age 30 (Luke 3:23), calls himself a Nazarene to Saul on the road to Damascus (Acts 22:8) and Tertullus, an attorney, addresses Felix about the Paul the apostle of Jesus:

Acts 24:5 "For we have found this man to be a real pest and a fellow who stirs

up dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of

the Nazarenes."
