Welcome and thank you for taking a
Bible break to test your knowledge of God's word.
This week's question:
Land has been the desire for man in many respects all the way from Adam that used grazing for his livestock and Cain who tilled the soil, to the 1889 Oklahoma land rush that saw around 50 thousand off the Oklahoma border that April 22nd day at noon try and to secure up to 120 acres. There were some that illegally entered into the territory early and staked their clam sooner and became known as ìsoonersî.
Many wars have been fought over the
possession of certain territories and many lives have been lost for
those precious soils. Abraham was promised the land of Canaan;
1 Now the LORD said to Abram, "Go forth from your country, And
from your relatives And from your father's house, To the land which I
will show you;
2 And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make
your name great; And so you shall be a blessing;
3 And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I
will curse And in you all the families of the earth will be
blessed."
4 So Abram went forth as the LORD had spoken to him; and Lot went
with him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from
Haran.
5 Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his nephew, and all their
possessions which they had accumulated, and the persons which they
had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan; thus
they came to the land of Canaan.
6 Abram passed through the land as far as the site of Shechem, to the
oak of Moreh. Now the Canaanite was then in the land.
7 The LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your descendants I will
give this land " So he built an altar there to the LORD who had
appeared to him. (Genesis 12:1-7). The Lord sent the
Israelites to repossess their land of Canaan that God had provided
for them which meant asking the ones their to leave, and if they did
not a battle ensued (Joshua 1:all).
That brings us to our question, "Who plowed the land with twelve pairs of oxen?". Jesus said concerning any physical land; 20 Jesus said to him, "The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head." (Matthew 8:20). We see here that the hard working farmer gets to use his share of the crops first; 6 The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops. (2 Timothy 2:6). Although God entrusts the land to man, we also have His instructions; 28 God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth." (Genesis 1:28),
He expects us to use honesty in
dealing with it;
1 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of
property,
2 and kept back some of the price for himself, with his wife's full
knowledge, and bringing a portion of it, he laid it at the apostles'
feet.
3 But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to
the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land?
4 "While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it
was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have
conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to
God."
5 And as he heard these words, Ananias fell down and breathed his
last; and great fear came over all who heard of it.
6 The young men got up and covered him up, and after carrying him
out, they buried him. (Acts 5:1-6). His wife, who
conspired with her husband, met the same fate as her husband (Acts
5:7-11).
So then, for the answer to our
question we turn and read;
19 So he departed from there and found Elisha
the son of Shaphat, while he was plowing with twelve pairs of oxen
before him, and he with the twelfth. And Elijah passed over to him
and threw his mantle on him.
20 He left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, "Please let me
kiss my father and my mother, then I will follow you." And he said to
him, "Go back again, for what have I done to you?"
21 So he returned from following him, and took the pair of oxen and
sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the implements of the
oxen, and gave it to the people and they ate. Then he arose and
followed Elijah and ministered to him. (1 Kings
19:19-21).
So there we have the answer to our question as it was "Elisha" who plowed along with eleven other plows and he commanding the twelfth plow!
Let us recognize the use of our words in this life as our Lord has warned us; 37 "But let your statement be, 'Yes, yes' or 'No, no'; anything beyond these is of evil." (Matthew 5:37). May we be careful of the promises we make and be ready to complete our promises that we do make for life!
