Welcome and thank you again for taking a bible break to test your knowledge of God's word. This week's question:
Moses, born a Levite, brother to Aaron, raised by Pharaoh's daughter. Refused her sonship to help his people, but was rejected by them. He fled to Midian at age 40 to escape Pharaoh's hand and marries Zipporah. He then heeds the call of God to help his people escape from Egypt at age 80 by leading them out after the 10 plagues and wonders of God were wrought.
In chapter 33 of Exodus the closeness of the Lord and Moses is displayed when Moses pitches his tent far outside the camp, calling it the tent of meeting. This was no ordinary meeting. The people would gather around and observe Moses, and when he would enter his tent a pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance, and the Lord would speak to Moses face to face as a man talks to a friend. And the people would worship outside the tent:
Exodus 33:9-11 And it came about, whenever Moses entered the tent, the pillar of
Cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent; and the Lord would speak
With Moses. When all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the
Tent, all the people would arise and worship, each at the entrance of his tent. Thus the
Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend
After Moses destroyed the first tablets as his anger burned when he saw the people had rose up to play in the camp, leading to great sin (Exodus 32:19). In chapter 34 Moses goes back up on Mt. Sinai to cut two more tablets of stone so God could write the laws upon them once more. When he comes down from Mt. Sinai the second time, the people were fearful of him! For the skin of his face shone because of the Lord speaking to him. After Moses recounted the laws to the people he would place a veil over his shining face, fading as it were, to prevent it from scaring the people. So there we have the answer to our question!
Let us not request being veiled from the light of the Lord today-but look unto the word of God:
2 Corinthians 4:3-4 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to them that are
Perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving,
That they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image
Of God.
